Reflejos was founded in 2023 at the Grieg Academy of Music, University of Bergen. Rooted in free improvisation, the project explores the meeting point between spontaneous musical dialogue and carefully crafted compositional ideas. The musicians respond to the energy of the moment, creating evolving soundscapes that invite both performers and listeners into a shared space of reflection. This video documents a project created in 2023 in collaboration with Wrap in Bergen as part of the Audioglimt concert series.
The central idea of the performance was to choose from three videos of varying conceptual and aesthetic dimensions and, inspired by these visuals, create a live concert.
Upon receiving the invitation, I found it fitting to present the project with my group Reflejos, which I began and developed during my years of study at the Grieg Academy, alongside bassist Jakob Nisja and percussionist Gaute Ullestad Moen.
On this occasion, we created a free improvisation inspired by visual elements, influenced by free jazz and experimental music. The trio format challenged the traditional roles of the instruments, giving way to a shared musical moment without hierarchies. Ideas and impulses were allowed to manifest freely, becoming the driving force of the creative act.
The frenetic inconsistency of dreams" promises an intense experience, full of contrasts and deep emotions – a sound journey through the dreamlike and the unpredictable. Evoking abstract sounds, even poetic, melancholic or chaotic songs.
Composed out of free improvisation with jazz influences and pure musical instinct, the piece builds upon spontaneity and creative risk, with a visceral and personal touch, where unmeditated emotions and thoughts are the true composers of the soundscape.
