Daiyen Jone Castro is a Cuban-born interdisciplinary artist, multinstrumentalist, composer, and performer based in Bergen.
With a academic and profesional background in classical flute and jazz, her practice has expanded to a more experimental and research sound sound practices to more interdisciplinary dimensions
Now explores the intersections of sound art, ceramics, improvisation, and performance. Rooted in Afro-Cuban heritage, her work combines sound sculptures, electronics, and experimental processes to create immersive and symbolic experiences.
Artist Statement
Daiyen Jone is a multidisciplinary artist working at the intersection of sound art, ceramics, and performance. Her practice seeks to create a symbolic and sensorial language that bridges the ancestral and the contemporary.
Her current research focuses on sound sculptures—ceramic objects that resonate within a simbología rooted in her Afro-Cuban heritage, Caribbean mythologies, and personal narratives. Beyond aesthetics, her work is an act of invocation, presence, and tuning. Through improvisation, field recordings, electronics, and the body as an instrument, she creates immersive environments where art becomes a space of listening, contemplation, and connection.
Her practice comes with a decolonize the perception, liberating them from Eurocentric conventions, and instead proposing an intuitive, ritual, and embodied relationship with creation. As an Afro-descendant woman, her work is also a gesture of identity affirmation and expressive autonomy, proposing a poetics that emerges from magical realism and mysticism.
Without abandoning its sonic dimension, she now approaches ceramics through material and experimental research. Her goal is to create sonic sculptures, expanding her relationship with space and exploring how clay can become a field for play, intuition, and symbolic expression, through form, texture, color, and sound.
